Stop Fracking California! Support AB 1301!

The Petition: I support AB 1301 which places a moratorium on hydraulic fracturing (fracking) in California. Fracking to extract dirty, heavy, high-sulfur crude oil that requires enormous amounts of energy to refine will create more greenhouse gases at a time when they MUST be greatly reduced. Fracking will exacerbate the state’s water shortages and contaminate groundwater and the air we breathe. Fracking can increase the risk of earthquakes. Fracking will not bring economic prosperity or energy security to our state. I want California to move forward to clean, renewable energy, not frack for dirty heavy crude oil. I call on the governor and state legislators to enact AB 1301.

Let California legislators know that you want them to pass Assembly Bill 1301,

which places an immediate moratorium on fracking in California.

Native Hawaiians standing up against use of land for GMO experiments

At 9 am on an overcast morning in paradise, hundreds of protesters gathered in traditional Hawaiian chant and prayer. Upon hearing the sound of the conch shell, known here as Pū, the protesters followed a group of women towards Monsanto’s grounds.

“A’ole GMO,” cried the mothers as they marched alongside Monsanto’s cornfields, located only feet from their homes on Molokai, one of the smallest of Hawaii’s main islands. In a tiny, tropical corner of the Pacific that has warded off tourism and development, Monsanto’s fields are one of only a few corporate entities that separates the bare terrain of the mountains and oceans.

Children’s Hospital, Central Valley, California: Murals

I was approached to paint murals in a new hospital wing for Children’s Hospital, Central Valley. The project entailed 150’ of nurses’ stations, eight hospital rooms, and an examination room. I called for help, and my son Charles Gilbert helped me for this month long project. My son was attending the Academy of Art in San Francisco, and left his studies for this project, I dropped out of the teaching credential program I was in. We dedicated our lives just for a month, and had the most enjoyable time with this project!

We decided upon a theme for each room, a location in Africa, India, Australia, China.

We then focused upon what scenes we wanted to portray.

Thinking of the children, and the suffering and healing they would experience here,

we chose family scenes of Mother and Child.

The faces of the animals had to show loving kindness.

The eyes were so important.

We worked from photos of animal families,

and just painted what we saw,

all animals, including the human kind

love their children.

Our animal species are disappearing a such a rapid rate.

Humanity is spreading out even into animal sanctuaries.

We need more land for factories, resorts, plantations,

and economic growth.

Many animals will not be able to adapt the the rapid change in climate,

even the primates,
